In the morning, his parents realized they didn't see him getting ready for school, so they decided to check on him in his room. He was not there but had left a note indicating he may attempt self-destruction. His parents called 911, reporting Jed was missing.
Idaho Falls Police Officers began the search and were joined by area agencies. The media also shared his information with the public in an attempt to locate him. Over the next few hours, the search was carried out in areas he was familiar with, including the wooded areas of the neighbouring counties.
Even though his mobile phone was pinged, it was turned off or died at around 6:48 am, with its last location being 43 miles southwest of the Verizon tower at 1490 Lindsey Blvd. The area, including a nearby river, was thoroughly searched without fruition.

Jedediah Hall’s body recovery
Towards the end of April 2022, Adventure with Purpose and Profiling Evil contacted the Idaho Fall Police Department regarding Jed's search. The team had learned about his case from their viewers, former stories from the media, and IFPD releases on Hall’s disappearance.
On the morning of 1st May 2022, police officers from IDFPD, the Adventure with Purpose team, and Jed's parents met at the Snake River Boat Launch near the 1400 block of River Parkway, ready to begin the search.
The Adventures with a Purpose team immediately located the Nissan Versa approximately 75 yards downstream from the boat ramp. The vehicle was 50 feet from the shore, where the water was approximately 8 feet deep.

A local towing company assisted with the vehicle’s recovery and took it to a secure location for processing. Human remains were also recovered from the vehicle. On 4th May 2022, they were positively identified as those of Jed Hall.
Bryce Johnson, Chief of the Idaho Falls Police Department, confirmed the vehicle and human remains recovery in a statement that read:
In any case of missing persons, we sincerely hope to find the person alive and well. While this is not the outcome we had hoped for, we appreciate all those who have assisted in this investigation and the effort to provide answers to Jed’s family and loved ones.
