Come Let Us Reason Together, So Faith Comes From Hearing | Columnists

The Bible explains to us how the gospel will come to us, so faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the Word of Christ (Romans 10:17). Therefore, the lost sinner must hear the message of Christ crucified, buried, and risen (1 Corinthians 1:21, 23; 2:2; 15:3-4; 2 Corinthians 4:5), to be saved from his sins.

The Bible explains to us how the gospel will come to us, “so faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the Word of Christ” (Romans 10:17). Therefore, the lost sinner must hear the message of Christ crucified, buried, and risen (1 Corinthians 1:21, 23; 2:2; 15:3-4; 2 Corinthians 4:5), to be saved from his sins. Further, he must hear this message with faith (Galatians 3:2, 5), which is a gift from God (Ephesians 2:8-9; John 6:29)! Put another way, one’s election (Ephesians 1:4; Acts 13:48), cannot insure his salvation apart from hearing the saving message of Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12). This is Paul’s very point in 2 Timothy 2:8-10,

“Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the offspring of David, as preached in my gospel, for which I am suffering, bound with chains as a criminal. But the word of God is not bound! Therefore, I endure everything for the sake of the elect that they also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.”
