One of the biggest movie stars of the noughties, Josh Hartnett, quit Hollywood for a life overseas but returned to the SAG Awards this weekend.

The celebrity, who moved to England in the UK with wife Tamsin Egerton and their three children, returned to the spotlight in a rare appearance. Film star Josh Hartnett attended the SAG Awards to support his film Oppenheimer and it’s star-studded cast, including Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr.

The 45-year-old walked the SAGA Red Carpet, which took place at Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall, dressed in black. He wore a suave black tux and a brooch attached to his lapel.

The 40 Days and 40 Nights star appeared to look happy to be back in the Hollywood spotlight.

It’s his first time attending the Screen Actors Guild Awards show, and his film managed to bag a few statues on the night as well.

The Pearl Harbor actor left Hollywood a number of years ago, but it didn’t seem to faze him coming back. He used to reside in Los Angeles so it’s likely a similar feeling to returning back home. Although, he’s not shy from attending award shows altogether. He occasionally attends the BAFTAs in London, and was seen there last week.

In Oppenheimer, Josh Hartnett plays Ernest Lawrence, the late Nobel-winning nuclear physicist, and the movie won big at the SAG Awards. It won four statues this year, including, Cast in a Motion Picture, Male Actor in a Supporting Role/Leading Role as well as Female Actor in a Supporting Role.

Movie star found the industry ‘overwhelming’

Josh Hartnett was a household name before the SAG Awards this year though.

He launched to fame with his role in 2001’s Pearl Harbor, but also starred in Black Hawk Down, The Black Dahlia and Wild Horses. He’s also appeared in TV series such as Black Mirror and Penny Dreadful.

Josh actually turned down the lead for 2006’s Superman Returns, which is quite a decision when it comes to superhero movies.

He called the job ‘overwhelming’.

“The biggest thing for me is that I really enjoy making films, but the industry itself was overwhelming for a 21-year-old kid,” Hartnett told The Project in 2021.

“There were paparazzi around every corner, you couldn’t really go anywhere without being sort of harassed. And I decided I didn’t need that in my life, and I was able to still make films and live outside of it.”
